EPP60 - Slope Nationals

Sometimes EPP60 isn't all about speed, When the wind is light it's also about survival and completing as much of the course as possible. This Slope Nationals turned out to be such a competition. As it turns out we were very fortunate that we even managed to have a competition at all as the wind was from the North East and until the Thursday before the event we didn't have a slope to accommodate such conditions. Fortunately, just in time, the Land Agents who manage the moorland for the shooters very generously gave us permission to use the slope for both the EPP60 and the F3F competitions. We are very grateful to them for granting this access.

The EPP60 event was competed for by 24 fliers, 11 of which were from the Huddersfield Club. As previously mentioned the wind was very light and many rounds were won by those who just managed to fly furthest. Invariably this resulted in a very long walk down to retrieve the model and then back up the VERY steep hill in what were very hot conditions.

Because of the worsening wind conditions it was decided that we would omit the knock-out section of the competition and the top four placed pilots from the preceeding heats would battle it out for the title of Nationals Champion. The final was no exception to the previous heats and the race turned into competition to to find who could fly the furthest during the 10 lap course. In the end it was a close finish but the deserved winner who had shown his commitment and skill throughout the day to win was Nigel Potter. Well Done Nigel!

F3F BMFA League Round 4 Event

It was a strange weekend. Very little wind for the EPP60 but there was more for the F3F on the Sunday. The rules of F3F though require a minimum wind speed of 3m/s and during the day the wind meter was constantly teasing us with speeds just above and just below. This resulted in the competition making very slow progress and at about 3.30 in the afternoon it was decided that there wasn't going to be enough time to complete the event. Unfortunately then it had to be cancelled and therefore there are no results to show. Let's hope for better conditions in October when the event can be reheld on our slopes.
Many thanks to Andy Ellison for co-ordinating the event and to Jon Eddison and Richard Bago of the Hole of Horcum club for their persistance with the wind meter watching and for trying to keep the event running.
